In Italian
Fly with Delta Airlines to discover Minnesota thanks to a new seasonal air route from Rome to Minneapolis.
A stimulating, intense and busy project which allowed to me to tell live in only five days about two intercontinental flights (round-trip ticket) and two different travel classes – the Delta Comfort Plus and the Delta One.
It offers to me the precious chance to be able to talk once again, even more deepen, about a very beautiful American state, less famous to Italian travellers: the surprising Minnesota – it is really like that, trust me, a land rich in surprises and wonderful places to discover.
But let’s begin with things in order.
Starting from June 2nd 2016 until October 1st the American Delta Airlines company will operate a new flight from Rome/Fiumicino to Minneapolis/St. Paul to allow a further direct access from Italy to Real America.
It allows to repeaters – Italian travellers who love the United States universe as we love so always curious to enjoy different and unusual destinations – to reach and discover Minnesota in an easier and immediate way: to set out on new exciting on the roads in an authentic land which is opening with enthusiasm to international tourism.
11 hours flight spent in Delta Comfort Plus to reach the Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport.
A new travel class that is equivalent to a Premium Economy, more or less half way among the Main Cabin, the Economy Class and the Delta One, the Business Class.
What are its values added?
And what about the Wi-Fi?
It’s possible to have it all over the flight thanks to Go-Go In-Flight at $16,00 or buying different hourly ($5 per hour) or monthly ($49,95) passes if you are regular travellers.
How can we have access to this travel class?
If you already have an Economy ticket you can get the Upgrade Plus with an additional charge from 80 to 160 € through the website company or at the airport Kiosk.
On the contrary, the access to the Comfort Plus is free for Sky Miles Diamond and Platinum Medallion passengers and for Economy tickets holders purchased at full fare.
Surprising Minnesota.
A way of speaking, an expression I already noticed during my first journey to this very beautiful state and about I often thought during my latest stay between Minneapolis and Saint Paul.
Minnesota is a surprising state, simply because you would never expect – due to the very little information material about it, above all in Italy – to find there so many paths, itineraries (even during its icy winter with the most incredible winter sports), nature parks, lakes (really an infinite number of lakes), modern and functional cities among the most liveable ones in the country: they don’t forget their past, on the contrary they strain to keep it.
A past made of great railways centers for the run to the West, the epic gangsters that here wrote its hardest and most charming pages, the old carpentry and flour industries arisen around the precious Mississippi River (it rises right in this state at about 250 km to the north of Minneapolis).
And the memory of the strong north European immigration during the last two centuries which contributed to form its character and the commitment.
The stunning Mall of America, considered as the greatest mall in the United States, actually much more than this. A boundless container of experiences, besides shopping and funs, lifestyles and gastronomic varieties recalling the traditional cuisine as well as that one of the different ethnic groups in the state.
The modern, captivating and funny Minneapolis, its passion for art from the museums to the public parks, sport (did you know the really new US Bank Stadium will welcome the 2018 Super Bowl?), the music nights in the First Ave places, where Prince started his own career. The wonderful lakes and falls neighboring it as far as the Mississippi River banks and the strong relationship with the near twin, actually so unlike, Saint Paul.
Saint Paul is more European, bounded to its past, to the wonderful Victorian dwellings along the Cathedral Hill, to the life and the tales of Francis Scott Fitzgerald.
To the Peanuts, the characters of one of its most famous “children”, the comic-strip writer Schultz, to the old Mississippi and the wonderful Art Deco buildings reflecting at the passage.
And then there are 5 national parks, 67 state parks (among them 25 National Historic Landmarks), 12.000 lakes and the little villages scattered along the state: a succession of stories, tales, movies sets, the nearness of Canada and the as wonderful states of the Real America.
A journey into the journey.
I will talk to you about it in details soon, trying to offer to you – as always – cues, itineraries and tips to optimize your visit at the best.
9 hours 35 minutes flight spent – or maybe I’d better say literally “flown” – in Delta One to reach the Rome Fiumicino Airport.
A return definitely comfortable at first thanks to the free access to the Delta Sky Club, the lounge Delta of the Minneapolis Airport waiting for the intercontinental flight.
And afterwards during the flight thanks to the travel quality in Delta One besides obviously to the faultless onboard service.
A few details.
My report, my impressions and my tips as regards the experience with Delta Airlines and Explore Minnesota end here.
