What to do in Las Vegas leaving from the Strip, its lights, the Casino and its night entertainments?
What extra experiences – even a bit unusual – reckon during a stay in the city?
Find down here a detailed list of events, shows, museums and activities not to miss in the “Sin City” of Nevada.
Imagine Las Vegas it means to think instinctively to it, The Strip.
The street of about 6km – also known as South Las Vegas Boulevard – which cut literally into two parts the city from north to south, where the accesses to the most famous Hotels, Resorts & Casino of the city open in. Besides a series of venues, Malls and stores with an original and captivating design.
The first tour of the city leaves strictly from here, precisely from the souvenir photo de rigueur at the Vegas Sign – the Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas sign – at sunset, and then plunge into the night of the Strip among a bet at the Casino, one among the unforgettable buffet dinners – The Wynn one is my favorite by far. The free shows given to tourists by the Fountains of Bellagio and the Volcano at The Mirage, and many other ones, and those ones of the unique and inimitable Cirque di Soleil to book well in advance .

“You know; I think the best thing about Vegas is you can become anyone you want”

The Fremont Street Experience: neon, lights and music in the heart of the “old Vegas”, in Downtown.
A pedestrian street overcome by a cover of about 450meters completely covered by lights turning on and off at music rhythm, creating a sort of virtual show at regular intervals. Between the ceiling and the street a sort of “human” cableway runs – the Zip Line – which allows everyone ($50) to cross – literally suspended in the void – the whole Fremont Street Experience.
In the promenade below there are stores, restaurants, a big stage where groups perform live and some historic Casino, like the Golden Nugget, a proper icon in Las Vegas, opened in 1946 and working since then.
You can look the official website up for all the events and the shows related to the Fremont Street Experience during your visit to the city. Click here.
A really particular experience, a captivating multimedia journey into the history of the American organized crime and into the actions and the initiatives the law enforcement used to fight it.
The early 1900s, the first criminal gangs in New York, New Orleans and Chicago, the gangsters and the Prohibition until nowadays, passing through the deals with Sicilian local criminal organizations to allow the allied landing in Italy during the Second World War, the Hollywood corruption in the 1950s, the John Fitzgerald Kennedy election (according to some irrefutable evidences “supported” by the Italian-American mafia), the investigation of the early 1980s about the drug traffic between the United States and Italy – gone down into history as Pizza Connection.
The Mob Museum – born as National Museum of Organized Crime and Law Enforcement –hosted into the Las Vegas former postal office and tribunal, in the heart of the old Vegas in Downtown, was opened in 2012.
The tour allows not only to relive the most important moments quoted above through an exhibition path with a strong impact, but also to see live proper relics of the crime history. Among them all, the original wall of the Saint Valentine’s Day Massacre, weapons, dossiers and objects belonged to Al Capone, Lucky Luciano and to investigators and characters of the caliber of Elliot Ness – the man who set Al Capone up – and J. Edgar Hoover, the FBI “father”.
On The Mob Museum official website, you find schedules and further info related to the exhibitions dedicated to the Crime Lab – where today the evidences are analyzed – and to the period of Prohibition and the Speakeasy.
There couldn’t be a better theme museum than this one in Las Vegas, The Neon Museum.
A collection of 160 old neon signs (that for setting and exposition recalls the American Sign Museum in Cincinnati) recovered from restaurants, cafés, Casino and stores of Vegas, a sort of historic lights and colors memory of the city. It is possible to admire the first neon sign of the Golden Nugget and those ones of Flamingo and Treasure Island, and many other ones that today aren’t working anymore and (voluntarily) not restored.
The tour of the exposition – the facility is in Downtown, 770 North Las Vegas Blv – occurs only by guided tour in English and has to be booked well in advance since the turnout is always very high.
In The Neon Museum official website, you find the updated schedules (they vary according the season) and the available dates for the period of your stay.
As a regular customer of Premium and Tanger Outlets in the United States, I can state without fear of contradiction, that the Las Vegas Premium Outlets North is one of the most supplied – from a brand and store point of view – and cheapest outlets of the country, starting from the near (about 14km) and more tourist Las Vegas South Premium Outlets.
Inside the facility you’ll find also a well-supplied Food Court with a wide range of menu where to have a quick meal between a purchase and the other one, an ice-cream shop and a Starbucks cafeteria.
Parking – on the side of the main entrance – is on fee: $5 for a maximum three hours, $10 all day.
